It’s spooky season, witches ? Happy October, everyone! My favorite month of the year because it has my favorite holiday, Halloween! From the decor to the movies, I’m obsessed. This is my ultimate Halloween movie guide for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.
This is my favorite post to write every year. Check out last year’s here. I love Halloween movies all year round but during this time especially because they’re on every streaming service.
I picked out the best, in my opinion, scary and spooky movies that are currently streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. Click on the titles for the trailers.
At the end of the post, I will share my top 3 recommendations that I love and think you should watch first.
Also, I created an “Ultimate Halloween Movie Guide” checklist that you can print out. Scroll to the bottom to see!
Netflix
This is why you don’t take jobs from an online ad from a guy in a cabin, folks. It’s in fact creepy and disturbing, and the second one is worse!
3. Sinister:
It’s your typical move into a new home and finds something in the attic type of story, except a dark entity is now haunting the family.
4. Insidious:
This one truly did scare me, especially the creepy music they play throughout the film. Don’t watch this one at night alone.
5. The Ritual:
The best original horror movie Netflix has made so far. The storyline is crazy, bizarre and something I’ve never seen before.
This was so hyped up when it came out because people couldn’t figure out if it was real or not! It’s a found footage film where a couple documents their haunted house.
7. 1BR:
Welcome to Los Angeles, folks. Where it’s always sunny, dreams are made and the people are not what they seem. When a girl starts a new life in L.A., she soon finds out her new apartment complex has very strict rules with very bad consequences.
8. 13 Sins:
I never hear anyone talk about this one but it’s honestly really good. Desperate for money, a salesman in debt decides to partake in a game to win a million dollars. With each challenge comes more money but the task becomes more twisted and disturbing. Will he finish the game?
9. Would You Rather:
A fun game of would you rather, anyone? When a group of people is invited to a mansion to win money, they are forced to play a deadly game of would you rather.
Amazon Prime
10. Midsommar:
At first, I thought ” Wow, amazing cinematography, gorgeous bright colors, and great acting”, then the storyline got weird…like really weird. Still loved it, but warning: it’s very disturbing.
11. Hereditary:
Okay, this is by far the most disturbing movie I’ve ever seen. I mean, I was left thinking about for days after I watched it. Sometimes you’re better off not knowing about your ancestry.
12. Child’s Play:
This is a remake that didn’t need to be made but it was fun to watch. Chucky will always be a creepy doll.
13. The Addams Family:
It’s a classic that never gets old. It’s funny, it’s spooky, and perfect for family night.
14 & 15. Grave Encounters & Grave Encounters 2:
This is a hidden gem that I shouldn’t be sharing, but I just had to. A film crew breaks into an abandoned psychiatric hospital to catch some paranormal activity on camera, and that’s exactly what they get. Watch it for free here!
16. Pet Sematary:
When a father moves his family to a rural town, they discover something in the woods that shouldn’t be disturbed. When something tragic happens, he soon finds out sometimes dead is better.
Hulu
A modern classic in my opinion. It has such a good mix of comedy, horror, and gore! I promise the storyline is something you’ve never seen before.
18. The Lodge:
This was confusing at first but the ending was ?. A blizzard traps two kids and their dad’s new girlfriend in a cabin. The girlfriend’s dark past starts to come up and things start to go wrong.
19. The House That Jack Built:
It’s a long one, but I promise it’s worth it. It’s about a serial killer and his unsettling murders committed throughout his life.
20. Ghost Stories:
A professor dedicates his life to disproving paranormal activity until he is faced with four cases that are even unsolvable for him.
21. Oculus:
This one is creepy if you don’t like mirrors at night lol. An evil entity lies within an old family mirror and two siblings try to figure out what’s real and what the mirror is portraying.
22. Goodnight Mommy:
Twin brothers who do everything together welcome their mother home from extensive surgery. The boys become suspicious that the woman under the wraps isn’t their mother and they will do anything to find out the truth.
Disney+
23-25. Halloweentown (1-3):
The cutest of all the Halloween movies Disney has released, in my opinion. Love watching it every year. The 4th one is not my favorite lol.
26. The Nightmare Before Christmas:
The best songs, the best animation, and the best HALLOWEEN movie. It’s a Halloween movie people, not Christmas. Although, I watch it for both holidays.
27. Hocus Pocus:
It’s a fan favorite that I do like and do watch once a year, but once is fine. Still recommend though!
28. Twitches:
Tia and Tamera Mowry were my favorite sisters to watch when I was growing up, so of course, I loved this movie.
29. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire:
An early 2000’s throwback to classic Disney movie days. A family suspects their mom’s new boyfriend is a vampire but the mom is clueless.
Talk about frightening a whole group of kids who are now all 24 and older. This was a weird, creepy movie that Disney would never release today. Watch this, in case you missed it when you were 10.
31. The Haunted Mansion:
I love this movie (& the ride). A family enters a mansion only to find out it’s haunted by spooky guests.
Now it’s time for my top recommendations! These are the top 3 movies I recommend watching first to get you in the spooky mood. Happy Spooktober, everyone!
MY TOP RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Halloweentown (Disney+)
2. Grave Encounters (Amazon Prime)
3. The Cabin in the Woods (Hulu)

Great post. We will not be trick r treating this year, but will instead host a movie night. I am not a fan of scary movies, but your list will be very helpful in deciding on a movie.
Erika Marie says
Really sad that trick or treating won’t be a thing this year, but movie nights are the best! Dinsey+ has a great selection of family-friendly Halloween movies!

I am not big on paranormal movies. I like slasher films better. Can never go wrong with cute classic Disney movies though. I LOVE Halloweentown. I am currently wearing a shirt with a movie quote made by the one and only Marnie Piper herself.
Another cute one I loved was Scary Godmother on Cartoon Network but I have no idea where to watch it these days.

I love Halloweentown! I already watched the first three movies lol. I’ve never heard of that movie, but it sounds good!

I hated Midsommer the first time I watched it. Then I REwatched it and really enjoyed the complexity of messed up that it is!
Erika Marie says
SAME! I loved that even though it was a horror movie, the colors were so bright and vibrant. It’s something I’ve never seen from a horror movie before.
